More Cloud, More Fiber, More Bandwidth

Research in The Netherlands shows that a growing acceptance of cloud computing in business environments results in an increase of fiber connectivity in companies and enterprises. The Netherlands is one of the most sophisticated regions in the world for connectivity, cloud use, data center density and internet traffic. What happens now in Holland, will sooner or later happen in other regions as well.

The already (relatively) high number of fiber connections is still growing, and at the same time business end users are turning to higher bandwidths. The number of corporate retail optical fiber connections in The Netherlands increased in the first quarter of 2015 by 4 percent, compared to the same 2014 period. Compared to the previous quarter there has been an increase of about 2 percent. Evidence of this is found in the Telecom Monitor survey published recently by the ACM (Autoriteit Consument en Markt –  Consumer & Market Authority (ACM)) for the first quarter of 2015. According to ACM, the increase in the connections is due to the increase in cloud use.

As business users are increasingly using cloud services, relatively high upload speeds are required, according to ACM. When they have the choice, business end users therefore always opt for a fiber business connection to meet their growing bandwidth needs.

Also, the broadband speed in the past year has increased enormously. For example, the number of fiber optic connections that offer a speed of between 30 Mbps and 100 Mbps has increased 15% in one year. And the number of fiber optic connections that provide a speed of more than 100 Mbps grew over 50% compared to last year.
