Telecity/Interxion deal proves ‘carrier-neutrality’ is the way to go

Telecity Group and Interxion, two of world’s leading providers of carrier-neutral data centre services, have agreed to merge. Both are long-standing partners of Custom Connect and the announcement points towards the large-scale consolidation currently occurring across the data centre industry. But what does this particular development mean for the connectivity market and for our customers?

The merger demonstrates the success of business models that are based on carrier-neutrality. Both Telecity and Interxion have been fully carrier-neutral since they began operating in the late 90’s.

As a result their customers have benefited from highly flexible services, in both their choice of data centre location(s) and their preferred telecom carriers. There are no lock-ins regarding technologies, cloud models, locations or associated vendors.

Choosing your data centre and migrating your IT assets to a colocation provider can be a complex affair and it is a long-term, strategic decision. Selecting the most suitable connectivity infrastructure and deploying it across your business is a continual process, but you will only really see success if you are based in a carrier-neutral environment. For that reason alone remember the mantra – never put all your eggs in one basket!
